Saw Napoleon Dynamite tonight. Pretty good stuff.
I'd write a standard review here, but I'm on a laptop with the crazy touchpad mouse, and, really, I don't feel like writing for hours. I liked it. Let's just leave it at that. It's sort of like Revenge of the Nerds, except instead of using stereotypes to demonstrate the nerdiness of the characters, the characters are actual nerds. They actually lack social skills, they actually think that what they do is cool, and they actually don't really care that they don't fit in. I saw elements of myself in Napoleon, and elements of other people I know. It was never like looking in a mirror uncomfortably -- it was just more of a realization that, yup. That's pretty much what high school was like for lame-asses who weren't cool and didn't do drugs. No melodrama, no huge laughs, but still worth the time to see. 'Specially if you were lame in high school. Don't give me that "OMG! I was SOOOO lame in high school! LOL!" stuff -- if you were really, truly lame, you know it, and will see it in the movie. We were all lame back then, to a degree. Some of us more lame than others. The movie is a comedy, but, it's almost more a character study. Comments by: YACCS |
