Found a neato toy. I've got a ways to go before I overtake Nosuch, but I'm more popluar than Preacherman. Of course, if we look at CONTENT...

Finally heard the Johnny Cash version of "hurt".

For the benefit of Dad, "hurt" is a Nine Inch Nails song, originally on the album "The Downward Spiral". Now, it's one thing to have Trent Reznor singing the song. It's another to have Johnny Cash, "The most virile voice in all Christendom", according to Bono (of U2), sing the song.

I hurt myself today,
to see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain,
the only thing that's real.

The needle tears a hole,
the old, familiar sting.
Try to kill it all away,
but I remember everything.

What have I become,
my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
goes away
in the end.

You could have it all --
my empire of dirt.
I will let you down.
I will make you hurt.

I wear this crown of (thorns)
upon my liars chair
full of broken thoughts
I can not repair.

Beneath the stains of time
the feelings dissappear.
You are someone else.
I am still right here.

What have I become,
my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know
goes away in the end.

And you could have it all --
my empire of dirt.
I will let you down.
I will make you hurt.

If I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself.
I would find a way.

Jeebus.

Of course, the emotional impact is lessened, since on WinAMP, it's followed by Elton John's cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", featuring the reggae guitars of Dr. Winston O'Boogie (John Lennon).

As a side-note, I was at the concert where they filmed the NIN video for "hurt". Trent broke at least one keyboard.
